Comparison of production process routes in BOPET Industry

At the moment, there are 2 different production process routes in BOPET industry, one is slicing process, another is direct-melting.

Before 2013, the market was mostly based on slicing process, while after 2013, flocking process was introduced. According to Zhuo Chuang’s statistics, by the end of September 2019, the total production capacity of BOPET in China was 3.17 million tons, and the production capacity of direct melting integrated equipment accounted for about 30% of the total production capacity, and the remaining 60% of the production capacity was drying equipment.

The cost of slicing process is lower than that of direct melt, about 500 yuan per ton. Therefore, it has strong profitability in the field of general film. At present, the top three enterprises in the industry have four law enforcement equipment, Jiangsu Xingye, Yingkou Kanghui are Top 3 suppliers in BOPET industry in China, and the market share of ordinary film is several. With the production of Ningbo Jinyuan, Fujian Baihong, Zhejiang Yongsheng and Shuyang Genzon join the industry, a new competitive pattern has been formed in BOPET field, but the overall cost competitive advantage is more obvious than the slicing method.

There are both advantages and disadvantages in the two processes. Although the profitability of direct melt in the field of general film is better, the slicing process line has obvious advantages in terms of production process and product richness. At present, BOPET market in the direct melt production line are thin film production line, normally  Thin BOPET film products are mostly used in the field of general packaging. Only part of the thickness can be used in the electronic field. However, the production line of slicing process is thicker film production line. In addition to ordinary packaging, it can also be used in the field of electronic and electrical industries, construction and application fields are more abundant, and customer groups are more powerful.

With the upgrading of BOPET production line and the improvement of technology, the direct melt equipment can produce more and more products under the premise of cost reduction. In 2005, through technological upgrading, Fujian Baihong can increase the thickness of production from 75μ to 125μ. New equipment is still planned for later. At that time, it will be able to produce products with thickness of 250μ and 300μ. This is an evolutionary step in equipment. In addition, BOPET production line has also achieved leapfrog development in terms of width: From 3.2 meter to 8.7 meter to 10.4 meter. China BOPET market part of the late plan on 3-15 of the 10.4 m production line, which will refresh the new pattern of China’s BOPET industry.
